What does it cost to check out tools?

In order to check out tools you must sign up for a tool library card. This includes paying a ONE TIME library fee. You choose what you want to pay based on what you can afford.
The basic membership gains you access to our inventory on a "by the item basis" and the Pay It Forward Program.  All of the proceeds for membership go towards the acquisition & maintenance of tools for you to use. You can also choose to participate in a subscription service.

What is "by the item" basis?

Pay It Forward Program

The “pay it forward” movement is not a new concept, it dates all the way back to 317 BC. There are small documented events of the “pay it forward” notion throughout history; however, it became a widely popular concept after the 2000 movie of the same name, which was based on the novel by Catherine Ryan Hyde. The simplest way to define “pay it forward” is that when someone does something for you, instead of paying that person back directly, you pass it on to another person instead.

At the Tool Library, the Pay It Forward model is provided by donations so that you can get a free rental. If you so choose, you can make a donation for the person behind you, who will donate for the person behind them, and so on.

What is the point of all this? Why do so many people live their lives according to the “pay it forward” principle? It has been proven that acts of kindness build exponentially in a community and because people believe that one good deed deserves another. “Paying it forward” can make the world a better place.
